Abigroup Contractors constructed the Indoor Sports and Entertainment Centre for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The project was completed ahead of schedule in December 1999. The $280 million package includes the main arena, a 3,500 space multi-level car park and a section of the Olympic Plaza.
The build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) project allows Abigroup the operating concession until 2030. Abigroup staved off national and international competition in winning the contract. Bob Carr, the Premier of New South Wales described Abigroup’s winning proposal as “spectacular”. It offers Sydney a world class venue, with more seats and greater flexibility than any other indoor arena in Australia.
The Sydney SuperDome is the largest and most technologically advanced indoor sports and live entertainment venue in Australia. With a maximum capacity of 21,000 seats and 52 corporate suites, patrons are treated to uninterrupted views.
The Sydney SuperDome hosted the artistic gymnastics, trampolining and basketball finals during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and wheelchair basketball for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.
Abigroup was the major sponsor of this prestigious BOOT (build-own-operate-transfer) project. Abigroup project managed the design team, which included architects, geotechnical, civil, structural and services engineers, fire engineers, Q.A. engineers, cost planners and concession consultants, amongst others. Abigroup organised the finance and constructed the building. | |
